How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I love to explore the rich heritage of embroidery through the ages and use traditional techniques in new ways. For inspiration I draw from our amazing border landscape, and like to use natural fibres like wool, linen and silk which are in themselves a starting point for creativity. I make pictures and hangings, textile jewellery, accessories and kits, and produce hand-dyed threads and materials for stitchers.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

The joy of making is central. There are so many textile techniques and I enjoy working with my own hands to produce unique pieces of worth that buyers will treasure. By making my own work and teaching a range of workshops I try to ensure that ancient embroidery and textile skills are not lost.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a contemporary Embroiderer working with a range of textile techniques such as machine and hand embroidery, print-making, felt, mixed media, dyeing, spinning and weaving.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

Making and selling my work, developing projects and kits, and pioneering new combinations of techniques.
Tutoring and talks for groups like the Embroiderers' Guild, Quilt groups, the WI and independent textile groups across Shropshire, Wales, Cheshire and the Midlands.
Teaching for organisations such as Westhope College, Shropshire Council Museum services, local arts events such as Stretton Arts Festival etc.
My work has featured in publications such as Stitch magazine and Workbox magazine.
