How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I work mainly on the potters wheel, throwing and turning. I am interested in altering the thrown shapes and adding textures and handles.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

The opportunity to experiment and develop techniques and ideas, while making clay objects that are both useful and beautiful and which add enjoyment to peoples' lives.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a craftsman potter, I design and make stoneware pottery for all domestic and decorative uses.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

My workshop, where I can receive visitors, is under and next to my home in Ledbury -the workshop includes an old brick tunnel used in the past for storing cider. I previously had a workshop and shop in Hackney, east London, for 46 years, and for many years have exhibited in Cornwall.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I have a Diploma in Art & Design and an Art Teachers Certificate; and I have both practiced and taught pottery for 50 years.
I teach a 2 day handbuilt ceramics course at the Gloucestershire Arts & Crafts Summer School.
I am a member of the Hereford Craft Guild, and this is my fourth year taking part in H-art.

Exhibitions in the last 3 years:

I take pots to the RHS Show and the Autumn Show in Malvern.
I have a stall under Ledbury Market House roughly once a month and go occasionally to the monthly Sunday craft market at the Fold in Bransford.

Your gallery outlets/stockists:

I prefer to sell directly to my customers at fairs, and visitors to my workshop.
I think it is important for people to touch and feel the pots before purchasing.
