I create designs from my drawings which I translate into batik an ancient Indonesian art form involving layering wax and dye on cotton. I work to commission in batik and also for architectural sandblasted glass. I also build collections for new exhibitions.
My starting point comes a walk, a drawing, or a photograph I've taken. I'm always trying to lighten my carbon footprint whilst wanting to share my love of the wildlife around us. You will find coastal birds, garden birds, butterflies, wild flowers and more in my work, I have an eye for detail and a love of colour, mark making and composition .
It's a dift to be able to create beautiful artworks, informing others about the importance of our wildlife in a positive and uplifting way. . I'm passionate about teaching children and adults, and run two art holidays per year in Portugal.
I'm inspired by the natural world, with a passion for British birds, bees and butterflies. Batik is my main medium, it's an ancient Indonesian process of layering wax and dyes on cotton. I also work with cyanotype, glass and collage. My designs are sold as originals and prints on greeting cards, lampshades and giclee prints.
I'm a full time artist, this year focusing on a new body of batik work celebrating our beautiful natural world.
