Details
I love to use many different ceramic techniques when creating my work. Coiling, throwing and hand-building to name a few. My real passion is using glaze to accentuate my pieces. My favourite clays to use are those that are stoneware based, such as speckled stoneware and crank. I choose the most suitable technique for the piece that I am working on. I throw pieces of homeware on a potter’s wheel, I coil large vessels for the home and garden and I also enjoy using my creative and sculptural skills to create figures and animals.
Being an artist allows me to produce art work, both functional and decorative for others to gain pleasure from. It also allows me to share my passion and creativity with people through taster sessions and regular classes.
I am Becky from Millikin Ceramics. I am a ceramic artist and tutor.
My passion is to create pieces for the home and garden. Alongside my own work, I gain great pleasure from sharing my love of clay with others, so they too can be proud of what they can achieve.
I produce my own work alongside teaching weekly classes and workshops for individuals. Over the past 18 years I have taught pottery evening classes in local schools and in my own studio in Kingstone. I have a few students who have been coming since I started in 2006. It is wonderful to see them flourish into talented ceramic artists. I get a lot of enjoyment from sharing my enthusiasm for clay.
I found my love for clay during my time at Hereford Art College whilst studying general art and design. I then went on to study Ceramics at the North East Wales Institute in Wrexham. I studied all the different methods of ceramic production and touched on creating my own glazes. At the time glazing was not my favourite part of my work, ironically something that is now very important to me. After successfully completing my course, I put my love of ceramics on hold. My time was divided between being a wife and mum, working full time in a primary school and teaching pottery evening classes. In my spare time, I completed an honour’s degree in Education Studies at Worcester University.
I am now lucky to be able to dedicate all my time to my ceramic work.
