How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I am primarily attracted to form and colour, aiming to capture the light sides of objects where the most saturated colour is, and how that shifts and changes throughout the object through the shadow side, cast shadow and highlight. On a 2D surface this creates form which is exciting. I'm not interested in creating something similar to a photo, the painting needs to be a slightly abstract or loose and not give all the answers that your eye is looking for (e.g. lost edges) so that you have to subcontiously 'fill in the missing pieces' to understand it.

I back British farming and heritage varieties of wheat, apples and pears and seasonal produce in my paintings. Heritage varieties of wheat are beneficial for so many reasons, e.g. more crop robustness, less nitrogen reliance and better digestibility for us to eat. We need to support farmers who grow food for the UK without air miles.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Learning! Being on a journey to see what you can create. Seeing the beauty of God-given nature all-around us.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a rural Herfordshire artist focusing on loose realism still life
