Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I produce hand-made, funky up-cycled clothing, accessories and soft furnishings, in natural fabrics including cotton, denim, linen and wool. Using screen printing and recycled fabrics, I create colourful and creative designs, layering images and taking inspiration from nature and my regular visits to Cornwall. My prints are created from original drawings or photographs which are transferred to screens using photosensitive emulsion. This allows me to use my images repeatedly, changing colours and arrangements individually on each piece I make.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Being an artist allows me freedom of expression whilst exploring the design possibilities in the natural world around me.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a textile artist, specialising in screen printing .

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I am an Art educator, working in both mainstream and adult education. I also run Screen printing workshops form my home.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

Having gained a degree in Textile Design at Gloucestershire College of Art and Design, I spent my early years designing and selling silk clothes and accessories in a variety of craft outlets throughout the country including Covent Garden Jubilee Market. Later I travelled to South East Asia and inspired by the fantastic batik cloth available, produced a range of children’s clothing. For many years I led a thriving Art Department in a mainstream secondary school. I am currently an associate member of the Herefordshire Guild of Craftsmen, and am now able to concentrate more on my own practice.
