How would you describe the work you do and why?
Combining my keen interest in art with a passion for nature and the countryside, I create handmade welded tree sculptures from my workshop in rural Herefordshire. My designs are inspired by the beautiful trees I observe in the British countryside. Over the years, a love of bonsai developed into handmade wire sculptures which then became the larger scale welded metal sculptures which I create today. As my artistic passion has developed, I have sought fresh ways to push the boundaries, experimenting with new skills and exciting challenges.
Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:
I am a self-taught sculptor, welding metal to create tree sculptures for indoor display. I take extra care to ensure that each aspect is true to nature, as it's these details that breathe life-like character and authenticity into each creation. The sculptures are made using primarily reclaimed and recycled metals. Every piece is unique and an original.
CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:
I am self taught and discovered my artistic abilities when, after a lifetime working as a farmer, ill health forced me to reassess.
I am a member of The Herefordshire Guild of Designer Makers.
