How would you describe the work you do and why?

I make raku vases decorated with stencilled designs. I like the elemental, immediacy of raku firing with lots of fire and smoke.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

It's about making objects which people enjoy.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I'm a ceramic artist specialising in raku pottery.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I studied painting at art college in the 1980s but never practiced as an artist instead working in the media for 30 years. I took up pottery at evening classes about 12 years ago and really enjoyed it and learnt raku firing techniques at Cup Ceramics in Hereford.
