How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I paint expressive oil paintings of the Malverns hills and coastal scenes.

I work principally with palette knives, and my paintings are a response to how I feel on the day. Sometimes they are more abstracted, and other times seemingly quite detailed. I often don’t know when I start out what the outcome will be.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I find painting to be cathartic. If I don’t paint, I miss it. I can’t deny though, it is lovely when people appreciate what I have produced.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Anna Cumming, Oil painter
