How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My body of work consists of functional stoneware, thrown on a wheel designed for everyday use…. I like to combine glazes for interesting finishes with a matt finish being a particular favorite. I’m interested in designing and creating work that sits beautifully in any home with the wish to achieve clean lines and shapes, the piece must appeal to all senses not only to the eye but to the touch and to have purpose.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Being an artist is like a dream come true and being able to commit myself to making and creating has been a life changing experience. I always strive to attempt new things and have become able to accept the highs and lows of the all the stages and process of pottery. I feel such excitement and anticipation when I first open my kiln after a firing and it is a joy to make things that people can take away and use

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

HANMADE

I am a ceramicist and have been working with clay for 5 years. Initially, this journey was intended as a therapeutic and mental health exercise to escape the reality of a life-threatening illness (Cystic Fibrosis). Clay was a symbolic choice, its simplicity being an antidote to the complexities of my health.
The more I explored clay the more I wanted to make and embark on my creative journey

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I started my practice at Cup ceramics the local community studio, art has only ever been a personal practice for me until my experience with ceramics, but now I feel I have I really found my place. I attended the 10 week beginners course at Cup and on to the Intermediate course to further develop my learning, afterwards becoming a member for the last 5 years. Now I am a fully functioning potter creating all my pieces and firing at home....on occasion I visit my friends at the studio to connect with my creative community but most of the time I make in my tiny shed in my garden with my cat for company.
