Walking Through Bluebells

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My work is inspired by my love and enjoyment of the natural world, including woodlands, shorelines, and wildflower meadows, and the seasonal changes and atmospheric light experienced on walks in unspoilt environments, including the Malvern Hills, the Brecon Beacons and the wild coastlines of Cornwall and Scotland. Poetry by John Clare, Dymock poets Edward Thomas and Robert Frost, and North Uist based Pauline Prior-Pitt as well as the plays of Shakespeare provide further inspiration.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Being an artist is

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Artist in Textiles and Mixed Media, specialising in landscapes, trees and sescapes.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I fill sketchbooks with mixed media drawings, recording the colours, textures and seasonal and atmospheric changes around me. From these wonderful reminders I compose my textile seascapes and landscapes. I make either painted felt or silk paper backgrounds, depending on the mood of the piece, with the addition of layers of a rich palette of hand dyed silk fibres, machine stitch and collage. I also enjoy painting on paper with a range of water based mixed media, including acrylics, watercolour and water soluble crayons.
