Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My "Inky" illustrations are available not only as originals, but also adorn homeware, stationery and gifts which are all made to the highest eco-friendly standards here in the UK. I have been featured in the Guardian and Country Living Magazine amongst others, and am based in Herefordshire which inspires so much of my love of nature. Celebrating the natural world, and inspiring people to love and care for it form the centre of my work. I strive to not just "not do harm" but actively do good with how things are made. So for example, not only are my notebooks 100% recycled paper, the energy used in producing them is offset with a tree planting scheme with the Woodland Trust. Illustrations are hopefully aesthetically pleasing in their own right, but there is an underlying stewardship message at the heart of all of my work.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

People won't fight to save what they don't love, and people won't know to love if they're not shown. I want everyone to be able to enjoy a piece of the outdoors in their homes.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I create nature focused hand-drawn illustrations using hand-carved bamboo pens that I make from bamboo growing in the studio garden.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I teach workshops of how to carve your own bamboo pens, and also drawing workshops showing how to use them to express your own creative style. These are often run online to be accessible to anyone anywhere, and often are tied up with specific conservation charities, so half of the fee goes to help fund whichever part of the nature world is the topic of the workshop. I also carve pens whilst manning my shows and exhibitions, so you can come and see the process for yourself, even without signing up to a workshop
