How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My obsession with pattern and colour is more than just an artistic choice—it’s a deep-seated need to explore the relationship between spontaneity and control. Each piece I create is a reflection of my inner world, a dance between instinct and intention.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Art has been more than a career for me; it’s both sanctuary and lifeline. Through my practice, I have developed strategies to navigate the challenges of prolonged ill health. Forced periods of reflection often give way to bursts of manic creativity, and my work serves as both a record and a release of these ever-changing states of mind. I am captivated by the way we, as humans, respond to patterns—how they can soothe, unsettle, or provoke thought—and I take immense satisfaction in manipulating colour and form in ways that challenge expectations.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I have been pouring paint professionally since early 2016 and was among the first UK artists to pioneer this mesmerising technique.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

Beyond my own creative practice, I have spent over 20 years as an educator. Now, whether working with complete beginners or experienced artists, this passion for teaching reflects my belief in art as a transformative, accessible experience. I love helping people discover the magic of paint pouring in my Newent studio.

Exhibitions in the last 3 years:

Spring Exhibition Canwood Gallery - Herefordshire UK
ExpoMetro - Barcelona, SPAIN
Secret Gallery - Newent UK

Your gallery outlets/stockists:

Represented by several fine art galleries and having exhibited across the UK, EU, and USA, my work has garnered international recognition. I was honoured to be shortlisted for the Creates Magazine Artist Prize in 2018 and to win an Artrepreneur Award in 2022. Each accolade fuels my commitment to continually push the boundaries of what is possible with “simple” point pouring and I invite others to join me on this unpredictable, yet exhilarating journey.

You can presently find my work on my website at: https://www.moniqueoliver.co.uk/ or via The Secret Gallery in Newent.
