How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Based on all my experiences with nature, I sculpt in a free fluid style to show the personalities and unique quirks of my subjects.
I sculpt in a variety of clays, fabrics and flotsam. I paint, guild and smith all manner of up-cycled materials to create my very broad range of
products which are well observed, characterful, often amusing and even occasionally a little rude, but still very charming!

For you what does being an artist mean?:

for me the question of being an artist is an interesting one, as for me it is just a away of being, and has always been... for as long as i can remember i have made things... it is just in me, and the way i process and enjoy the world.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am an observer of life, i have always been a watcher, and have always looked after and loved animals.

I consider myself a sculptor, come potter... inspired by my watchings of the world

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I am based in the Marches between the river Monnow and the river Wye surrounded by ancient trees and free roaming wildlife. I live with my partner (sculptor Matthew Sanderson) and our three children upon a small-holding, with many creatures under our care, and a growing woodland to nurture.

My studio is here at home, where i teach workshops and one to ones in sculptural pottery, as well as running sanderson sculpture, my partner Matts large scale metal work studio and my own smaller studio for my creating.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I was born in Somerset, brought up in Worcester, N.Wales, Portugal, Cardiff & Rutland. Studied in Cambridge and then settled on the Welsh Borders. My love of Art and teaching also took me to China, Russia, and The United States.
i think that most of my real creative learning was when i taught on an art foundation for many years in cambridge.. its true what they say about knowing your practice better through teaching. I still really enjoy teaching adult students and see that spark, and people lighting up.. plus i love the questioning nature of students and their ability to show me new ways of creating.

Exhibitions in the last 3 years:

i regularly exhibit in the Albany gallery in cardiff and Plas glyn y weddw in north wales.
i also have shown in the old majors parlor in hereford in 2024, of course in Hart 2024, and in many craft markets across the south west.
this year in 2025 i have a solo show in Plas glyn y weddw for three months starting in may, called 'the Birds and the bee(tles)'
