How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I am currently working with mixed media on board, in the main a mix of made collage paper, acrylic paint and inks. Subject matter varies but the processes are similar. I also work on paper in a quite different way, portraying real landscapes and imaginary dreamscapes.
I love to paint flowers and still life subjects, both real and imagined. The images in my art may be representational, semi-abstract or abstract, always interpreted in my own unique style. Over the years I have experimented with different mediums and techniques to find those that work well for my purpose and give me a certain freedom to interpret.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I have been a professional artist for around 8 years now and feel content, connected and complete in this role. I'm proud of the fact that my art has raised funds for important charities and helped with well-being. I love where I work!

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a painter and mixed media artist. I depict aspects of our world that intrigue me. It’s this intrigue that informs my art and I'm driven to convey it, intending to evoke in the viewer a thought, memory, mood or emotion.
I'm one of the resident artists at Bevere Gallery in Worcester where our studios and artists' gallery are open to visitors Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4 pm.
I'm very much looking forward to welcoming h.Art visitors in Ludlow Assembly Rooms with fellow artist Cherrie Mansfield to our exhibition entitled 'All That Jazz'.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I'm used to welcoming visitors and chatting about my art. I also enjoy involvement in community and charity projects.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I have focused solely on my art for around 8 years now and in that time have attended various workshops adding variety to my practice. Through experience, I have refined my techniques and developed some unique ways of working with collage in particular. I've been involved in many exhibitions, art fairs and art trails, worked on commissions for public bodies and private customers and had work accepted for the Institute of Painters in Watercolours at Mall Galleries, London and Broadway Art Festival, among others. I've also contributed to several community projects raising funds for local charities. Examples of commissions include design of a banner for the Queen's Silver Jubilee commissioned by Severn Arts, and 'Echoes of Ancient Egypt, a community project commissioned by Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum during COVID-19. I have experience helping out with the organisation of Worcestershire Open Studios and have set up and organised a Worcester artist meetup group. In 2023 I jointly organised an art/poetry open call to artists and poets in Worcestershire with Worcestershire Litfest. This year, my design for a 'Waddle of Worcester' penguin sculpture has been accepted and my penguin 'Blossom' will be part of Worcester's summer art trail. I curated an exhibition in June entitled Breathless - Breathe More in Worcester city centre involving poetry and visual art. I am a member of The Arts Society Worcester.
