Details
I am interested in fragments of the landscape and geological features. 'Landmarks', 'Earth Works', and 'Freedom and Constraints' are regular themes.
I explore natural earth pigments and other natural materials in my practice. The pigments are used both dry as well as being added to acrylic binders.
Surfaces are layered revealing colours beneath. I work on handmade papers, acid free boards, canvas and plywood panels.
Drawing is a regular part of my practice as is a regular small work every Sunday in special sketchbooks - at the last count over 360 works since the idea started. 'The New Order' is a series of new works exploring natural monochrome media started in lockdown.
The creative process is fundamental to my way of life and is a daily activity. The discipline of working in the studio is a journey of discovery.
I am an abstract artist.
I began a teaching career in London and moved to Herefordshire in 1971. I have always had a studio and exhibited my work. After retirement I developed my practice and ran workshops, one to one mentoring and delivered talks about my practice. I have been involved with h.Art since its inception and I have also curated Art Festivals in Presteigne, Leominster and Kington and 'In the Mind's Eye' at The Sidney Nolan Trust.
Studied at Leicester College of Art, Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art and a Post Graduate Teaching Cert. at London University.
