My studio is based in central Hereford. Having spent the last 25 years working creatively with adults with disabilities it is taking me some time to feel my way back to my self and my personal practice. It is varied and my materials are usually dictated by my subject matter or vice versa. Sometimes a material presents itself to me and I instantly get an idea for how it will be used or what it may become. It speaks its reason for being.
My work is ever changing and covers sociopolitical areas as well as more personal led work. I am currently driven by an interest in my personal heritage, place and belonging. Why do we palce so much importance on family history and heritage ? and what does it mean to be the end of a blood line ?
I trained as a graphic and packaging designer and I feel these roots creeping back into my work lately. As a child I loved letter forms and handwriting and the rediscovery of this or rather the acknowledgement of it as a love I still have, has reignited my passion for all things calligraphic. To me, Art is about recognising that which is so close to oneself that it is a part of us and trying to discard what has been taught along the way.
I am a multi disciplinary artist. Im curently looking at the subject of 'Roots' in all their forms and with all their meanings, literal and metaphorical.
I run a textile recycling and arts centre in Hereford, called Rose Tinted Rags. Here, along with a shop that is open to the public, we run ongoing creative arts workshops working with neurodivergent adults and those with disabilities. Occasionally I run workshops for the general public.
