How would you describe the work you do and why?:

My paintings begin with sketching from the local landscape and developing imagery in the studio that reflects this. I often include a cottage that is a metaphor for home and an idealised memory of past homes in the hills of Wales. I love colour and the mood that it creates, so my palette is more about emotion than reality.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

It is one of many identities, mother, painter, teacher, illustrator, printmaker, gardener and more. It is a challenge and therapy, pain and pleasure.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am Maggy Roberts, and I live and work here in Clyro a mile from Hay on Wye. I paint the local landscape, draw from life in hay Caste make prints about local wildlife.
