I hope my work intrigues, connects with and maybe moves people on an emotional level, that they will look at the work (whatever the work is) and wonder what is going on, or discover things in it for themselves each time they look at it. My most successful pieces have this quality I think, as I look at a piece I see new things each time even though I made it! I like to reflect the things I see and feel about world I live in. Much of my work reflects the beauty and fragility of the landscape, particularly the Herefordshire landscape which I have loved since I was a child. I am interested in landscape history, the passing of time that has shaped it ( and continues to shape it) over thousands and millions of years, the laying down of layers caused by natural and man-made events. Hence my work is often layered vertically and has under-layers revealed by layering over. I am interested in the concept that nothing lasts, nothing is finished, nothing is perfect. I sometimes produce work in response to issues or themes, for example "Industrial Pastorale" exhibition in 2022; a collaborative short film for Borderlines 2021 about the impact of the pandemic on female creatives during lockdown; two tall ADC & textile figures "Bastet" and "Hyena in Petticoats" representing issues regarding women's equality for International Women's Day. I'm currently working on art works reflecting the Silurian (c465million years ago) and Ice Age (22,000 years ago) periods in north-west Herefordshire, how they shaped the landscape and what they left behind.
To make visual what lies within, to be able to show what I see, my vision of the landscape and world around me.
I work in a range of media and often mix up textures using layers with paint and other materials (paper, fabric) , hence I am a mixed media artist. For 2D work it's mainly oils and acrylics. I have explored creating with bioresin and ADC (air dry clay) to create 3D works. I sometimes produce textile pieces. The medium I use depends on my response to a particular subject or theme.
I work in a variety of media in both 2D and 3D. I use acrylics, oils, bioresin, fabrics, yarn, weaving, and clay (mostly air dry clay as I don't have a kiln). Sometimes I combine these and other materials (e.g. metal/wood) to make a piece. My "happy place" is painting with oils and acrylics. I have created work (from concept through execution) in collaboration with other artists, which I really enjoyed - a short film called Turn Up the Volume, and a large embroidered textile hanging with other makers which is now held in the Council's Art Depository in Friar Street, Hereford.

Member of Framework Herefordshire. "The Unity of Small Things", a collaborative textile piece in the Grayson Perry Tapestry Exhibition at the Hereford Art Gallery & Museum Oct-Dec 2021. Participating artist annually in the Hereford Open & Framework Exhibition (Courtyard, Hereford), and “Postcards from Life”, in aid of St Michael's Hospice. Took part in Herefordshire Wildlife Trust exhibitions at the Made in the Marches Gallery, Kington and the Apple Store Gallery, Hereford in 2021, and the 2022 Industrial Pastorale exhibition at the Made in the Marches Gallery . Work occasionally available for sale via Tobias James Art and Framing, Hereford. Secured funding for and led on the publication of "Into the Meadows" for the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust Birches Farm Meadows project 2020-21. Long listed for the National Poetry Competition 2017. Poetry published in various small presses and anthologies including Scintilla, Navis, The Rialto.
