I make stoneware pottery, primarily on the wheel. I am inspired by the land and weather that surrounds me now in Herefordshire and from my time in Scotland. I am also influenced by my design background. Making decorative wheel thrown ceramics, I mainly use layered slips to create interpretive landscapes and seascapes.
I see myself as a potter and I love the process of throwing a pot on the wheel itself. Producing a canvas to decorate allows me to indulge my imagination. If what I produce is artistic, I think that is for someone else to judge, rather than for me to define.
I'm a studio potter using stoneware clay bodies to make wheel thrown pottery and some handbuilt ceramics.
My studio is in Leintwardine. When I am not making my own pottery I enjoy teaching and passing on the joy I find in throwing to others. I run:
- 2 hour Introduction to Pottery workshops
- 1 Day Throwing or Handbuilding Workshops
- 6 Week Beginners and Improvers Wheel Throwing Courses
I have four wheels so can accommodate four people at a time, and no wheel sharing!
KLC School of Design in Chelsea and trained as an Interior Designer. I practiced as an Interior Designer for 14 years, running my own business in Oxfordshire. After moving to Herefordshire seven years ago I took a Ceramics course. This then led me to learn to throw on the wheel, taking further courses at Clay College, Stoke, in Wheel Throwing, Glazing and Glaze Making. I continue to seek out ways to develop my skills, with this year attending a course at Wobage Pottery.
