How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Whilst working full time my only creative activity was gardening. I started my artistic practice by making sculptures for my garden. I like to use recycled materials where possible and introduce bold colours where I can. I also make smaller interior items for the home which I exhibit in Made in Ross, currently based in the Corn Exchange in Ross on Wye.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I love the challenge of taking a hard material like stone or glass and transforming it into a tactile, fluid sculpture. I often seem to have more mistakes than successes, but some of my mistakes are actually the pieces that give me the most enjoyment. I recycle where possible and a lot of my work is made from, or incorporates recycled materials.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a sculptor, working with stone and glass, wood and metal. I established Arts in the Marches https://www.artsinthemarches.co.uk in 2008, organising garden sculpture exhibitions and craft workshops. I have since studied with many local artists and craft makers and through the encouragement of local makers, in particularly members of the Made in Ross collective, I have gained the confidence to explore my own sculpting interests.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

10 years ago, with Glenn Morris RSA , I established the Llangarron Stone carvers . We run monthly stone carving workshops, beginners always welcome. During H.Art 2024 we are running demonstrations at Made in Ross and at Canwood Affordable Garden Exhibition
I now run recycled glass fusing workshops on request, for individuals or small groups (max 5 people). Please get in touch for further details.
