How would you describe the work you do and why?:

Landscapes and nature in printmaking, drawing and painting. I work with linocuts using the reduction technique and I find the versatility and potential of this medium particularly exciting. Much of my inspiration comes from the wildlife and scenery around me, and in France where I worked for several years. I particularly enjoy observing nature that is overlooked or under-appreciated, and like to make landscapes from unusual perspectives.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Being an artist means being me. It is the best way I know of to express my fascination with, and delight in, the natural world. Day-to-day, it means sketching outdoors (I often seek out new landscapes on my bicycle or motorbike), or working in my home studio in Kington, either painting and drawing , cutting new designs into lino blocks, or hand-printing. I have just acquired a printing press which feels will be an evolutionary leap forwards in my art practice.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

Miranda Whitten-Walker

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

During my time as a professional biologist, I undertook science illustration commissions and have had work published in numerous books and magazines, including in the BBC and Oxford University Press. I ran 'sci-art' workshops at Swansea University as a volunteer. As I now concentrate solely on making art, I consider myself an 'emerging artist' in the process of establishing her own studio.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I am largely self-taught. I have benefitted from various creative workshops and classes throughout the years, most recently night classes in printmaking at Hereford College of Art.
