I choose to make mostly Botanical inspired sculpture. I use my years of experience and accumulated skills. I enjoy being creative. I also enjoy abstract work and colour. I have plenty I still want to do.
Being an artist means I keep a sense of playfulness and nonconformity. It gives me an extra reason to look closely at nature. Being my own boss means I have the freedom to set my own standard and I get a buzz from making.
Sculptor, or Artist Blacksmith. I design and make sculpture, using many traditional blacksmithing techniques.
My practice, mostly involves me in my workshop... cutting, grinding, bashing and welding steel... trying to turn it into something pleasing. I tend to do most of my experimenting and making in the winter months and enjoy being able to display the finished pieces in the summertime. I get to see some inspirational gardens, both exhibiting and then at the private gardens of my customers. Occasionally I do talks for garden or art groups.
Hereford College - Blacksmithing and Welding at Hereford College in the 1990's and working for a renowned blacksmith in Brecon. Set up my workshop at wharton Court in 1998.
I start the season (most years) with Malvern Spring R.H.S. show and end it with the Malvern autumn show. I attend some local shows and choose some further afield each year. recent years have included Garden Shows in Hampshire and Surrey. Last year included Southport Flower Show, Handmade in Oxford at Waterperry Gardens, Church Stretton Art Festival, Made in HR6 and Edgbaston Art Markets Birmingham.
