There is much variety in my work. I use several different materials - many natural ones that I find on my travels. I just love making works of art which is mostly inspired by the natural world. Finding colour and enhancing it in a piece of stone encourages people to look more closely in the world around them.
I enjoy bringing out the colour in the natural materials I use by adding a piece of glass, or smalti, which is an Italian mosaic tile used for centuries. When making a mosaic playing with colours and choosing the right combination is important as is laying the tiles in the right direction (adamento) to create flow.
Being a mosaic artist and combining different materials and different colours enables me to enjoy my surroundings and look more closely where ever I am. Creating things fills my days and unless I am lucky enough to be travelling, a day doesn't go by without me assembling materials into something that pleases me.
I am primarily a mosaic artist. Mosaics are my favourite medium - there is so much variety in materials and form. I make large and small items for the garden from decorative wall or fence art, mosaic glass hanging balls, to 3D sculptures. as well as mirrors, and useful items such as trays and heat resistant mats for indoors.
I am part of the Made in Ross cooperative based in the historic Market House in Ross on Wye. I no longer teach but enjoy being part of a group that encourages and enables its members, as well as the wider community, to make and buy items they love.
I enjoy taking commissions.
I have a City and Guilds in basketry that I completed many years ago. I no longer practice this craft but still Incorporate and learn from the design element of the course. I frequently attend courses for other crafts.
