How would you describe the work you do and why?:

You'll find references in my work to my teaching career, the films I enjoy, the music I listen to and all the artists whose work I've admired in getting to this point. You'll find the things I agree with and the things I dislike. I often include text in my paintings. Sometimes it's there to illuminate an intention, sometimes to confuse and question what a contemporary painting can be - I try to be serious and playful at the same time.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I'm attempting to put my world onto canvas, to paint a portrait of the times I live in, while paying attention to those who have trodden this path before me.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I am a painter who likes to work on a generous scale, but with an eye to a domestic setting. My work is generally figurative, although I frequently work across genres. I have developed a parallel series of constructions which consist of separate panels which can be arranged in any order. I work in acrylic paint for its quick-drying properties.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I work full-time in my studio at home. I undertake occasional commissions and demonstrations.
