Details

How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I try my hand at most things artistically, from painting and collage to print and digital illustration. One of my favourite techniques is to use found surfaces and textures to add an extra depth to my work. I'm currently using mixed media, including lino and stamp printing, found surfaces and digital drawing to explore the natural shapes found in plants, animals and the natural world. This is a relatively new venture for me but an exciting one.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Whilst currently being an artist is a part time venture, it is the dream for it to become more integral to my life. The joy I get from creating, trying new things and seeing the outcomes is very therapeutic and something that brings great pleasure to me, and hopefully the viewing public.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

My name is Gareth Evans and my practice name is The Eurwyn Boat.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I enjoy experimenting with my work and keep sketchbooks to explore new ideas and techniques - I also sketch and draw digitally and often combine these two ways of working.

As well as making original artwork and illustrations I also work to commission, recent commissions have included building illustrations for business, painting sculptural pieces for local gardens as well as pen and ink animal drawings.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

BA (Hons) Illustration, Hereford College of Arts
