How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I hand-cut and carefully arrange pieces of coloured glass sheet. Texture, colour, shade, and pattern are achieved using vitreous glass, powdered, and crushed glass. I strive to minimize waste by utilising every scrap of glass available. Each artwork undergoes multiple firings, lasting over 12 hours, with temperatures exceeding 700°C
In between firings I enjoy applying textural elements, painterly techniques, and even experimenting with encasing materials like metal between layers of glass. I also apply surface treatments such as carving, engraving and sandblasting.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Creating glass art is a compulsion. My inspiration comes from the natural beauty of the Wye Valley, along with meaningful moments in my life. I like to use texture and light refraction to entice the viewer to touch, even though they know how fragile glass is.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

My work is predominantly kiln formed glass and I am a member of the Contemporary Glass Society as well as the Made in Ross Art Cooperative
I also run workshops in glass fusing.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I have more than 27 years of experience in adult education and run regular glass fusing workshops. My workshops are informative and fun and suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience. They will give you the skills and knowledge to create beautiful pieces of unique art. Materials are included, so all you need to bring is your imagination and enthusiasm. Please contact me for more information.
