How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I would describe myself as an impressionist artist, focusing on the natural world and landscape. My work is driven by colour and shape and as such mark making, the ever changing seasons and light are of constant fascination. I have been painting and drawing for the majority of my life, becoming a professional artist over 10 years ago.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Being an artist means brining joy to people's lives in what ever way I can. If that means creating small art cards or fabrics or larger paintings, then I am happy in the knowledge that someone else finds joy in my work.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I mainly work on paper, wood and canvas. I use a variety of media, watercolour, India ink, acrylic ink, gouache and oils. I also include intaglio etching in my practice. In addition I design repeat pattern from my paintings, making a variety of interior furnishings.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I trained to be a Secondary school Art teacher in my early twenties and although I no longer teach in schools I do run workshops every week from my studio. I teach a variety of age groups from children to adults and at various levels. Being able to teach as well as creating artwork of my own allows me to continually develop my working practice and to explore new techniques on a weekly basis. I believe that as an artist, I will never stop learning and developing, being able to include others on that journey is a wonderful thing.
