How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I'm a traditional artist specializing in watercolour, graphite, acrylic and ink based in Herefordshire.

I'd describe my work as realistic but also very bold at the same time since I love to draw and paint beautiful animals and birds but weave in explosive threads of abstract colour to really make every piece that I create loud and exciting with expression!

For you what does being an artist mean?:

For me being an artist is the most human form of expression available. You can really see the heart and soul of the artist behind every painting and creation if you just look between the individual brushstrokes and talk to the creator to hear their story! Nothing else quite shows the creativity of people more than all forms of art in my opinion.

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

My art business is named Athene Art. You can call me C!

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I've been making art since I could hold a pencil, and I have been doing watercolour painting since 2015! I also dabble in photography and photo editing. The majority of my artwork is based on photographs that I've taken over the years, and very often revolves around the natural world.

I especially love photographing and painting/drawing birds - there is just something so innately wonderful about birds and their charming little habits.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I'm a recent graduate (2023) who studied Classics (Ancient Latin, Greek and History). I've always loved historical art and architecture, and I've volunteered at local heritage properties in the county giving tours of various lovely houses!

I took a GCSE in Art in 2016 which I thoroughly enjoyed since I was able to use my own photographs of wildlife to recreate some of the amazing sights that I'd seen in nature with my own creative touch added to them! During 2020, I passed the time by delving even deeper into art as a means of escapism and found great comfort in the creative world at that time. I've since expanded my portfolio of paintings greatly.

Exhibitions in the last 3 years:
