How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I design and make rustic, contemporary ceramics. Using grogged stoneware clays, including a gritty, toasty coloured wild clay. I employ simple hand building techniques - coiling, slab and moulding - to build my pots, then scrape and refine with simple tools to create texture. Decorative elements are minimal, leaving areas of the surface unglazed enhancing the tactile nature of the form. I'm inspired by rugged black coastal rocks, rockpools, sea and my garden.

My very popular terracotta bread pots are thrown on the wheel.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

I have been potting for over 30 years, starting with an evening class, when I fell in love with clay and it's endless possibilities. I love being able to bring my ideas to life through clay and the constant learning and discoveries that pottery presents.

To me, passing on pottery skills through creative sessions is an important part of being an artist.
