How would you describe the work you do and why?:

I make art mostly as a response to the beauty I see in nature and the majority of my subject matter is botanical. Currently I work mostly in Cyanotype 'sun printing', coffee painting, and drawing.

For you what does being an artist mean?:

Beauty is something that is necessary to our soul's health and for me nature is the breath of fresh air that lifts me out of the every-day concerns and helps me to see the bigger picture in life. It helps me to re- find my equilibrium. My art is my reply to this blessing and if that reply can have a similar effect for someone else, then the blessing is multiplied!

Describe what you call yourself/your practice?:

I work under the name Alexa Summers Art.

Your practice & activities include e.g workshops, teaching:

I work mostly from home and glean the plants I use from the local surroundings, but also occasionally at the seaside when I get the chance I like to do Cyanotype sun prints plein air using waves, sand, seaweed and foam.
I can be found regularly at The Local to Ludlow Produce Market every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the Month and around Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire at different markets. I also exhibit at local galleries, coffee shops etc.
I run Cyanotype workshops in Richards Castle in collaboration with Food Friends Flowers, and occasionally in different venues on request.

CV & Education, relevant & leading to your artistic practice:

I trained in Art at school, college and also a year of Fine Art at University before moving on to teaching and community development work around the world, which necessarily involved quite a lot of creativity! More recently I have returned to practising art full time.

Exhibitions in the last 3 years:

I have exhibited at The Artists' Gallery, Ludlow; Footprint Gallery, Ironbridge; Eden Coffee Shop, St.Peter's, Worcester; The Nest at Little Verzons Farm, Ledbury.

Your gallery outlets/stockists:

I currently have work for sale at Ludlow Assembly Rooms Visitors Information Centre, and Eden Coffee Shop, St. Peter's, Worcester. I also sell my work regularly at the Local to Ludlow Produce Market, and through my website.
