How do you describe your Gallery?:
Hay Castle has a selection of galleries including the Cafe Gallery on the ground floor and our Printmaker in Focus gallery on the first floor. For hArt we also have a visiting artist on site.
Do you specialise in any particular artform or craft?:
No
What's important to you when you choose whose work to exhibit and sell?:
We want to bring people into Hay on Wye to enjoy the artistic community that it has to offer. We aim to be as inclusive and friendly as possible and to tie in if we can with the themes of printmaking, books and storytelling.
What's coming up this year?:
This year our main gallery will have an exhibition of 20th century Welsh painters which has been curated by gallery owner Martin Tinney who previously owned and ran a gallery in Cardiff.
Your notable exhibitions in the last few years:
Last year we had April Ashley: A Lady in Hay as well as our recent Quentin Blake illustration exhibition. We have also hosted an Arts Council exhibition of Prints including Matisse and Picasso prints. Our first exhibition on opening in 2022 was Portraits of Artists from the National Portrait Gallery.
Who are the Artists you show on a regular basis:
Our galleries are constantly changing but we have work by local artists for sale in our shop including Hannah Firmin and Aine Veneables.
