Hay Castle
The recently renovated Hay Castle combines modern architecture with its historic legacy dating back to the Normans and beyond. Once a defensive tower the keep bears the scars of battle, while the main building houses the story of Hay as an independent 'bookshop' town. Our bespoke gallery with its vaulted oak beams is a unique space, and with exhibitions opening every three months there's always something new to view. We have been lucky enough to host travelling shows from the NPG and Arts Council bringing names such as Picasso and Matisse to the Welsh boarders. During h.Art, Hay Castle remembers the iconic figure of April Ashley, her pioneering cultural legacy and her connection to the town. Maggie Roberts' vibrant landscapes will brighten our Cafe walls and our 'Printmaker in focus' Philomine Wales' architectural prints adorn the walls surrounding our Colombian printing press. Once you have taken in the history and the beautiful surrounds visit the shop, cafe and gallery.
